Touchwood Mushrooms is a family-run Australian business based in Western Australia. Founded by mycologist Graham Upson and his wife Lee, we have been growing mushrooms for five decades.
What began as a small farm in Perth grew into Western Australia’s largest mushroom facility at its peak. After selling that operation in the 1990s, Graham and Lee relocated to Denmark, WA, where Touchwood Mushrooms was established with a new focus: functional mushroom extracts.
Today, we produce fruit body mushroom powders and liquid extracts using carefully developed extraction methods designed to preserve the natural compounds found in whole mushrooms.
Built on cultivation experience
Graham’s interest in mushrooms began in the 1970s and evolved into a lifelong study of mycology. Over the years, he researched global production standards, extraction science and the differences between fruit body mushrooms and mycelium grown on grain.
After reviewing the supplement market, he found many products contained limited fruit body content. Determined to do things differently, he developed a dual-extraction method designed to draw both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble compounds from the mushroom fruit body.
This process helps retain naturally occurring beta glucans, sterols and antioxidants that contribute to the value of functional mushrooms.
Carefully sourced, independently tested
We grow selected varieties in Denmark and work with trusted long-term partners in China to source premium organic whole fruit body mushrooms. China remains a global leader in medicinal mushroom cultivation and research, giving access to high-quality specimens grown under strict standards.
All Touchwood products are independently tested for heavy metals, pesticides and microbial safety before release.
Why extraction matters
The cell walls of mushrooms are made of chitin, which the body does not easily break down. Extraction helps make key compounds more accessible.
It takes approximately 10 to 20 kilograms of fresh mushrooms to produce one kilogram of pure mushroom extract powder. We offer both powders and liquid tinctures so you can choose what fits your routine.
